KELOWNA Sept. 8, 2004 - In response to the shocking events in a Beslan, Russia, a handful of website designers and service companies in British Columbia have began working together to launch “HelpTheKids.ca”, an information website where people can go to contribute to the relief efforts underway in Russia.
“We are part of a global community,” said a spokesperson for the initiative, “and when we watch events such as what we have seen in Russia unfold on our televisions, we cannot simply sit on our hands and pretend we don’t care.”
The website will contain information about ongoing relief efforts, and links to sites, such as UNICEF and The Red Cross, where people can help. |

The most powerful earthquake in 40 years erupted under the sea off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Dec. 26. The quake unleashed a giant tsunami wave that crashed into the coasts of south and southeast Asia, killing tens of thousands of people.
The power of the tsunami was felt as far away as the African coast, some 3,000 miles away. |
